The Action Plan (AP) on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment within National Institutions is a proposed framework for mainstreaming gender equality in the organizational practices, policies and programmes of these institutions. It seeks to support their efforts in promoting gender equality. This publication provides technical information and guidance on the implementation of the (AP).

This report shows the impact of innovation on employment creation in the Arab region. The report concludes that technology and innovation is sector-dependent, with different types of innovations in various sectors affecting employment differently. In some sectors, any type of innovation could result in more employment creation, as it is the case in manufacturing, construction, transport, wholesale and retail. In other sectors, such as real estate, innovations that enhance production and increase the process efficiency reduce employment creation. Similar negative effects of innovation on employment have been witnessed in the hotel and restaurant sector.

It is based on data from recent national censuses and surveys that have been harmonized and verified by ESCWA in accordance with international standards.

The Policy Gap Assessment Tool (PGAT) is designed to assist Arab countries in analyzing the extent to which existing public policies and programs mainstream social justice principles, identify gaps and strengths and distill reform entry points to ensure that these policies promote social justice. The Diagnostic and Planning Tool (DPT) helps cities to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their institutional and operating arrangements from the perspective of economic recovery and resilience building. It also helps to define a process for the design and implementation of recovery plans/strategies to address the identified gaps, accelerate better recovery and improve longer-term resilience.
This interactive tool is designed to assist policy makers in government ministries and various actors in integrating older persons issues into national policies and strategies and to support them in developing policies for older persons. This tool contributes to guiding thinking about priority issues and proposing solutions that fit the national context.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), UN Women and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched a series of 19 national reports on gender justice and law in the Arab States. Through the publication of these reports, the partners sought to encourage reforms at the policy and institutional level, and to address structural barriers to achieving gender equality and women's empowerment. A regional report on Gender Justice and the Law: An Assessment of Laws Affecting Gender Equality in the Arab States Region was prepared. This report addresses legislative trends, highlights good practices, and assesses legal loopholes. A brief diagram of the legal frameworks at the regional level was made available prepared.

The ESCWA Digital Arabic Content Award for Sustainable Development was launched during the 2021 AFSD, for the aim of highlighting the benefits of digital technologies and platforms in advancing sustainable development and promoting the creation of related quality content.
